Cheetahs Global Health Solutions partner with Ministry of Health to celebrate National Day of Physical Activity

Cheetahs Global Health Solutions (CGHS), a non-profit organization founded by Ugandan sports, fitness and Wellness enthusiasts partnered with the Ministry of Health to champion Fitness and Wellness during the National Day of Physical Activity on June 18, 2023.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is: ‘Regular Physical Activity for my health is my responsibility’

The Minister for Energy and Mineral Development Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa represented H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was the Chief Guest during the main celebrations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. In the build-up to the celebrations, Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng and the Minister of State for Primary Health Care Margaret Muhanga called on the general public to embrace active lifestyles.

Dr. Gerald Mutungi, the head of NCDs prevention and control programme at the Ministry of Health, and Commissioner Charles Oyo as well as fitness ambassador Moses Golola called for mass participation on a day meant to raise awareness about the dangers of leading a sedentary lifestyle like non-communicable diseases and strengthening efforts in the prevention and control of such ailments.

“We always like comfort but it breeds diseases like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, respiratory problems among others,” Muhanga stated.

“These preventable diseases cause ‘premature death’ so, eat healthy, and keep yourself in a clean environment to even prevent diseases like malaria.”

“Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor that causes premature death globally,” Muhanga noted, before she urged people to get out of their comfort zones and routines that involve; driving to work, sitting in the office and at home watching TV, eating supper and or a snack before they go to bed.

“Physical exercise is coupled with eating healthy and living in a clean environment, so kindly change your lifestyles. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and get early diagnosis and treatment for the NCDs,” she said.

Cheetahs Global Health Solutions (CGHS) Managing Director Robert Ssebugwawo was appointed as the events Master of Ceremonies.
